It seems worried for most parents because of their children's food allergies. Even though there is a general push in the direction of healthy snacks in the elementary schools, this time of year still brings lots of treats. Which means we have to be even more on top of things. When one mom was new to food allergies, she tried to substitute treats at school for her son/daughter with home baked treats that were as identical as she could get to what the other kids were eating. Many parents now realize that it's nearly impossible to do this and besides, that's not real life. So they substitute the same foods when they can, and when they can't, their sons/daughters just eat something different.

So anyway, the mon should have a really easy recipe for pumpkin muffins. It can make them egg-milk-nut free. She also bake them in a rectangle cake pan for variety. All of the children love them! It's an easy treat to send to school to replace pumpkin bread or pumpkin pie.

Below is the cooking procedure of Pumpkin Muffins/Pumpkin Bars
15-oz can of pure pumpkin1 box Spice Cake Mix
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the above ingredients together until smooth (I use a hand mixer). Divide mixture into muffin tins. Bake muffins for 18-21 minutes, or cake pan for a bit longer, until toothpick comes out clean.

You can serve them as is, or sprinkle powdered sugar on the top. I also sometimes drizzle cream cheese frosting on top (for those not allergic to milk).

In my opinion, the functional foods are foods that contain nutrients that with special function about health (maybe some of them could prevent certain disease but most of them are not proven by authoritative scientists or bureau like USDA). In reality, I have accepted the concept of functional food for decades from many advertisements on TV. J, now, do you think if the functional foods could really play positive effects on health? I think yes.

There are really some functional foods around us which are useful but few impressed by us. For example, the dark green and red or orange vegetables are good functional foods, because they contain a lot of carotenoids, which can neutralize free radicals and protect against vision problems and skin cancers, but the research of the mechanism of its function is now underway. Besides, the berries, red wine and tea are also functional foods because they contain a lot of flavonoids which can also decrease the amount of free radicals.

Fibre-a helpful nutrient often neglected by most people


As we know, fibre mostly comes from the skeletal system of plants. Formerly, people dislike eating the tissue which is rich in fibre like stem of vegetable, but in fact, the fibre is now esteemed a helpful nutrient for health, especially for these patients who are often suffered from diarrhea.

Keep away from processed food

As we know, the quality of the food that one puts into his body has a direct correlation to the quality of health. Generally speaking, the food which is close to its original state of existence then the food is fit for your health. On the other hand, processed food is usually so far from its original state, so it’s unfit for your health. Let us learn of the reality of processed food, which is one that has been through any or all of the following: heating, adulteration, pulverization, reheating, denaturization or degrading. But a carrot inside a frozen TV dinner will give you no nutrition at all because of its being chemically altered so it could stay fresh in the freezer for months.

3. The processed food is fattening and addictive. The chemicals that get added to the food make us crave more of it. Our body will take anything it can get to fill the lack of nutrition. It is also said that processed food is probably the number one reason why America has such a weight problem today.

So, stay away from processed food and you will live a healthy life.

How to deal with insomnia?

I have been getting insomnia for a few weeks, and I can’t fall into deep sleep every night. Once getting up in morning, I often feel tired and sleep-debt. Sleep-debt is a word invented by myself, because I think that the symptom of insomnia implies lack of enough sleep.

From some materials, I have learnt that many people suffered from insomnia actually tend to think about many things before bed, for example, they often think about what to eat for tomorrow night's dinner or money issues before shutting your eyes at night, which I also often do. It is proved to prevent you from getting sleep.

And, I collect several tips for improving one’s (including me) quality of sleep:
1. Keep your breath proper. Certainly, everyone knows how to breathe; however, most people don’t know how to breathe properly to calm their minds and bodies. The proper breathing is: firstly you take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and try to push all of the clambering thoughts from your mind. Take a deep breath through your nose. You want to do this slowly, while concentrating on your body, and once your lungs are full of air, release it slowly through your mouth. And then you set a rhythm, and exercise it every night. Maybe after a few days, your quality of sleep would be improved a lot.


2. Massage is a wonderful tool to relax one’s body. Getting the knots of tension massaged out of your system can be relaxing and many people fall asleep while getting the massage.


3. Making love is also good method to relax you. Sex releases chemicals in the brain that naturally help you to relax and fall asleep.


4. Reading before bed can help you shut your mind off and divert your attention from the day's events.


5. A nice hot bath could also make you relaxed. Just make sure you have your bath an hour or so before bed so your body temperature can settle down afterwards.


No matter what method you like, as long as you can fall into deep sleep, you get the answer.

Do you look beautiful?

Today, I saw an article which is issued with women’s beauty. As the author said, anybody can look beautiful if they feel beautiful. I believe it deeply. So, as a matter of fact, beauty is just a combination of various factors.

In my old post, I often stressed on the saying, “healthy woman is beautiful!” So I think the author should add my viewpoint into his post. The author referred of the lifestyle and mood as the key things of beauty, but I always think the health should be significant for women. I even feel health directly leads to women’s beauty, for example, a healthy woman must keep her skin smooth; eyes bright; hair glossy and figure shapely.

Certainly, the factors are indeed complex. Sometimes, one healthy woman gets unhappy, and then she would look sentimental and unbeautiful. So I have to say, beauty is not a thing derived from any single factor.

In a word, I agree with the saying of the author, “anybody can look beautiful if they feel beautiful”, however, because of the significance of health, I think the words could be changed into, “anybody can look beautiful if they feel fit”.

Radiation is really harmful to people’s health?

Lately, I have got plenty of white hair on temples, which worries me a lot. I set to think if I am senile. Referring with the keyword, o-l-d, I am so distressed because my real age is only 27!

It’s real that no matter what your face and or body look like, white hair categorizes you in an instant. Basically, people, especially young people, treat you differently while you get white hair. It goes beyond the "looking old" issue - it relates to perception of ability. "Old" man simply aren't viewed as competent as young people.

Sure, the worry disturbs my life greatly and I have to look for solution. After all, the age of mine is not a time of getting old.

Therefore, I have a try to learn of the reality of getting white hair. It is proved white hair is present while the particles of melanin in cortex layer are degenerated. The cause of white hair’s forming is complex, including considering deeply; the disorder of body’s heredity or hormone; being frighten with sth; being too tired; etc. All the facets lead to one’s nerve tense, and it would make the blood vessel which transport nutrients into hair distorted and holdback the excreting melanin of cortex layer. I love playing basketball very much and I know that it could keep my body moveable and healthy. Many people choose to do exercising like muscle strengthening exercise, but I don’t. Because I dislike do movements with continuous and boring repetition, which makes me crazy.

I have been playing basketball for years, and I know the sport could bring me happiness and vigor. When playing basketball on the match, I am so passionate and urging to goal and goal! For me, I am a fan of NBA, so from the live match of NBA on TV I could learn more skills and exercise more in gymnasium. Although it couldn't make me stronger significantly, the nerves of my movement are strengthened and the metabolism is improved a lot, which are proved to be important because many people can’t keep the parts of body harmonious and metabolism fluently.

Certainly, if one is sturdy to improve his health level or become stronger and more vigorous, then he could join in some sport&health program like Basketball League, which could introduce you some special and custom procedures to make you be stronger combined with regularly playing basketball.

If having nothing to do with health, playing basketball would also be my love. Moreover, the sport can be helpful to improve health level, what’s a fortune for me! Aha, like the old saying,”one stone kills two birds”; I am just throwing the stone!

Drinking ample water can keep you healthier

Some people are often suffered with dehydration, which is a great loss of water in tissues and cells. It would be worse especially in hot summer, if one’s body temperature is too high during the time, then his life would be threatened.

4. Drinking water can also keep one’s tissue function well. For example, it can make one’s (especially women’s) skin glossy and healthy, which makes them look beautiful due to health. Water is also necessary for internal organs and joints to stay lubricated.

5. In addition, drinking ample water can accelerate some nutrients absorbing rate. For example, some water-soluble nutrients like vitamin C could be absorbed by body quickly if they are in water. So, if you want to keep your body absorbing nutrients fluently without any clog, drinking more water everyday is your best choice.

The hidden killer on face—Acne

As a matter of fact, everyone has the experience of suffering from acne. When you are struggling with acne, the experience must be distressed. It goes into birth and travels up hair follicles, clogs the pores and begins the acne development cycle.

Then, what result in the sebum being produced largely and finally due to the acne breakout? There are involved with two aspects: one is male hormones. The other one is stress and emotion. At puberty, our body begins to produce an abundance of male hormones and this happens in both boys and girls. This overproduction of male hormones can happen at other times in life besides puberty. Meanwhile, these male hormones cause the bodies sebaceous glands to shift into overdrive and begin producing sebum, which would greatly result in acne breakout. Also, when you become extremely stressed or overly emotional, your adrenal glands would produce a substance known as Cortisol, which is released directly into the bloodstream. Then the chemical chain reaction continues as the sebaceous glands release sebum, the sebum travels up the same hair follicles, clogs the pores and acne develops. So, reducing stress will just naturally reduce sebum production by the sebaceous glands and reducing sebum production will help to alleviate an acne breakout. (Surely, there are many methods of reducing or releasing stress, such as chatting with others, playing games, doing sport, watching movies, etc.)

If you want to keep a beautiful and healthy face without any acnes’ annoying, taking measures to keep an optimistic heart then you would make your body’s chemical reaction effective and fluent which result in final heath of your face.

Sport and health

In my opinion, doing sport frequently is most healthy method rather than supplementing some nutrient diet. Because doing sport frequently could make one’s organs function well, as eating foods could only make body’s nutrition sufficient.

Actually, doing sport could strengthen one’s body, including organs’ consolidated. If you are a man like sport, then you would find that your body’s immune function is relatively stronger than those who dislike sport.

Additionally, doing sport could relieve the stress in job, sometimes, people are under stress and their skin is less able to fight off the bacteria that can result in a blemish. Doing sport may be a good therapy of symptoms rooted by stress.

How to detect that you are vitamin-lacking

These days, I rarely eat fresh vegetables and fruits, so I feel unfit a lot. The symptom reveals that muscle’s ache, sleep debt, little power, stomatitis, etc.Especially, there are three blebs in my mouth, which make me painful when eating and drinking.

Today, I find that I am absorbing little vitamin from vegetables and fruits. Normally, I would prefer to eat meat rather than vegetables and fruits, but now I know that my recipe is so partial that I have ignored something that I couldn’t gain from my favorite foods.

Yesterday, I go outside to buy a great deal of fruits and eat out them. The function seems effective and my mouth’s blebs become smaller and smaller, now I could eat things at random.
How to detect you are vitamin-lacking? I think the way is so simple that once you have not eaten fresh vegetables or fruits, you should become unfit because of vitamin-lacking.

By the way, the vegetable’s vitamin (C,B,etc) are mostly soluble in water and non-steady against heat, so, most of our cooked vegetables’ vitamin are depleted because of high temperature and soluble traits.

So, I prefer to choose fruit as my complementarity of vitamin, while it do not need be cooked with high temperature and the vitamin are so fluent in the juice. Fried Food – is it safe?

Heating vegetable oil above 300 degrees Fahrenheit damages the oil causing toxin formation. Heating the oil increases the rate of chemical reactions (oxidation) especially if it is in the presence of air (oxygen) and light. Many toxic products of oxidation occur, including trans fatty acid and other unnatural breakdown products (dimers and polymers etc). Our cells accumulate these toxic product and age more rapidly.
The nutritional value of browned food is poor. Proteins turn into acrolein a known carcinogen.
Frying food is an unhealthy practice and should be avoided.
For those who cannot help themselves and insist on frying, the following suggestions are made.
Saturated fats are the most stable to heat. Monounsaturated are the second most stable. Polyunsaturated fats are unstable to heat. Canola oil, corn oil and other liquid vegetable oils form the most toxins when heated. This is because they are damaged the quickest with heat and air. Never fry with Canola oil.
Saturated fats that are low in the essential fatty acids are safer for frying. They are however also to be avoided because the raise your cholesterol.
Mixing water with the oil when cooking helps prevents overheating of the oil.

Pain, in the sense of physical pain, is a typical sensory experience that may be described as the unpleasant awareness of a noxious stimulus or bodily harm. Individuals get acquainted to pain through various daily hurts and aches, and occasionally through more serious injuries or illnesses. For scientific and clinical purposes, pain is defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage".
Pain is highly subjective to the individual experiencing it. A definition that is widely used in nursing was first given as early as 1968 by Margo McCaffery: "'Pain is whatever the experiencing person says it is, existing whenever he says it does".
Pain of any type is the most frequent reason for physician consultation in the United States, prompting half of all Americans to seek medical care annually. It is a major symptom in many medical conditions, significantly interfering with a person's quality of life and general functioning. Diagnosis is based on characterizing pain in various ways, according to duration, intensity, type (dull, burning or stabbing), source, or location in body. Usually pain stops without treatment or responds to simple measures such as resting or taking an analgesic, and it is then called ‘acute’ pain. But it may also become intractable and develop into a condition called chronic pain, in which pain is no longer considered a symptom but an illness by itself. The study of pain has in recent years attracted many different fields such as pharmacology, neurobiology, nursing sciences, dentistry, physiotherapy, and psychology. Pain medicine is a separate subspecialty figuring under some medical specialties like anesthesiology, physiatry, neurology, psychiatry.
Pain is part of the body's defense system, triggering a reflex reaction to retract from a painful stimulus, and helps adjust behaviour to increase avoidance of that particular harmful situation in the future. Given its significance, physical pain is also linked to various cultural, religious, philosophical, or social issues.

A strong “people” search engine-spock

It was said that a secretive Menlo Park start-up incubated with $1 million from Clearstone Venture Partners, will unveil a search engine for people. And now the program is successfully set up.Spock is a free people search application that aggregates data from across the Web and enables people to search by name, e-mail, or "tag" which is a personal piece of information such as Real Estate Agent, blind, Duke Alum, Aurora Illinois, etc. With Spock you have the ability to claim your search result and add tags, pictures, and other pieces of information about yourself and others. Within a person's search result are additional links to where a person is on the Web including a blog, LinkedIn profile, Myspace page, etc.
From a demo we’ve seen, we think it could be a powerful addition. Spock could take this in some interesting directions. Its main challenge will be to wean users from Google as a first stop, though more on that in a sec.
When Spock launches, it will have 100 million profiles of people in its database, by far the largest open repository of profiles anywhere. Spock delivers a mixture of facts and research on a people, but also opens a profile to social input, giving it a touch of Wikipedia.
This move is a no-brainer, and it makes you wonder why no one has done this yet.
LinkedIn, ZoomInfo and other people-contact related sites were built in different eras, and have focused on specific subsets of people (LinkedIn and ZoomInfo on business execs, for example). Spock, however, exploits all the latest tagging technology and the exploding number of public profiles on the Web since social network sites like MySpace became popular last year.
Scrubbing millions of profiles from the Web wasn’t an obvious thing to do when Palo Alto’s LinkedIn launched several years ago. LinkedIn began as a contact site, allowing people to request meetings through their layers of relationships. It has since tried to move toward a more open model. Indeed, LinkedIn is aggressively building out its people profiles even as we write. (Last week, it also kicked off a major expansion into Europe and Asia as part of a land-grab, with a German version to go live soon.)

Sleep debt

Everyone tells you not to accrue credit card debt, but almost no one tells you not to accrue sleep debt. Sleep debt, do you even know what that is?
The recommended amount of sleep for the average person is about 7-8 hours. The fact of the matter is that with larger work demands, longer commute hours, and just wanting to do more, most Americans are not falling into the recommended bracket. For every hour your body gets deprived of sleep, it tries to make it up in the following day. If deprived for 2 days, it will try to make it up in the third, and so on, racking up your debt like a Saturday night at the bar. Recent studies are now showing however that while the body can easily make up sleep debt here and there, the body loses its ability to do so when sleep loss occurs too often.

For once, I am quite pleased that I cannot eat pizza. Moreover, I’m absolutely not eating Totino’s and Jeno’s frozen pizzas! The lastest news in disease outbreaks is E.coli in humans in the midwest and northeastern states. The outbreak occurred in October 2007 and all of the victims have one thing in common: they’ve all seemed to have eaten pepperonis from Totino’s or Jeno’s pizzas.

CDC reports on the latest E.coli outbreak. E.coli has been of concern in the last two decades. We’ve heard about Jack in the Box and its share of the disease. It has been discovered in Taco Bell as well. E.coli 0157:H7 is a strain of bacterium Escherichia coli. The bacteria can be found in the intestines of healthy cattles, sheep, deer and goats. Ground beef, raw milk, or other parts of the animal that are commonly eaten by humans may be contaminated in various ways. However, cooking meat until it is well done will sufficiently kill the bacteria and protect you from becoming ill. Symptoms include severe bloody diahrrea and abdominal cramps. These symptoms can take place as quickly as 3-4 days after consumption.

The talking about food allergy

When it comes to exercising or psychological stimulation, I strongly believe that the “use it or lose it” theory applies. Research has shown that people of all ages can gain or lose muscle as well as train the neurons in the brain to fire faster and improve reaction times. But more recently, I’ve begun to believe that the same goes for other components of the body; in particular, I’m talking about the digestive and immune system. Every human body is a host to multiple bacteria that help the body fight diseases and attack invaders. Essentially, that’s how a vaccines functions; they use bacteria to fight bacteria. The digestive system is responsible for processing the food that we eat and transferring it into energy. One of the key components to that process is the enzyme that helps break the food down. Without the enzyme, foods cannot be processed and used the same way. This is essentially the reason people experience conditions such as lactose intolerance or gluten intolerance. The immune system also plays a big role in sensitivity and allergies to foods because if the body recognizes certain foods as foreign invaders, it will set off a chain of reactions that result in the visual signs of rejection, or what we commonly recognize as allergic reactions (e.g. wheezing, stomach cramps, hives, itchiness, swelling).
